Garland, Texas – September 15, 2009 – Healthy living is great fun! Find out how during the Healthy Living Expo 2009, Saturday, September 26 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Special Events Center, 4999 Naaman Forest Blvd in north Garland.
The Expo will offer information booths, games, activities and entertainment to support this year’s theme: Healthy You, Healthy Earth: Rx for a Better World. The City of Garland, Garland ISD, Baylor Medical Center at Garland and the Garland Chamber of Commerce, and media sponsor Fox4 are joining to look at how caring for both ourselves and the earth creates a healthy lifestyle, and has a positive impact on the world around us.
The Expo Stage will feature exercise demonstrations, music and fascinating presentations.
Start the morning with Radio Disney’s Jay Jensen with music, games and prizes that rock, including a chance to win the Extreme Halloween Makeover. One lucky kid will win an extreme Halloween Hallow-balloo, where the Radio Disney road crew visits one lucky classroom and hosts an extreme Halloween party right in their classroom. But that’s not all! From the local winners, one national grand prize winner will be selected for the Extreme Halloween Makeover. That lucky family will have their home totally decked out for Halloween. Radio Disney will be on site for the entire day.
Throughout the morning, the City of Garland Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department will demonstrate samplings of just a few of the many fun and fit classes offered at City recreation centers. The demonstrations will include Jazzercise, Yoga, belly dancing, Zumba and Tai Chi.
Elizabeth Frisch from Nurtured World will take the mystery out of how to improve the environment and help families save a bundle of money! Learn exactly how personal spending habits and environmental impact are interdependent. Anyone can make a difference simply by improving their daily habits. Elizabeth will give away two iPods during her presentations.
The Eco Show is an interactive magic show that teaches students about in litter prevention, recycling and waste management. The program information is based on the Keep America Beautiful “Waste in Place” curriculum, but the entertainment is shear silliness. John Maverick’s crazy character keeps the students enthralled and laughing while delivering this important and topical information. Puppets, music and, of course, magic a fun and memorable learning experience.
